should i be vegetarian ?

vegetarianism.

what is it ? why is it so hard to be vegetarian and healthy?

at 8 i made the decision to be vegetarian. i was eating a meat pie, and got caught on a piece of fat i couldn’t chew. it sickened me, i then got to asking questions… and well.. where does that meat come from? what parts of an animal? how processed is it? and every single answer i got was, why was i eating this?

my father then gave me the tools to cook. and wow did it change my life.

i have spent years perfecting the art of eating healthy vegetarian, and sometimes unhealthy (depending on my mood), we don’t have to forget about the simple pleasures in life all the time ;).

so, for my first post, this is for you, the person that doesn’t want to eat too much meat, the person thats a vegetarian but is losing motivation or maybe inspiration.

lets talk about benefits:

  1. better mood - this one is fun, apparently vegetarians have a lower chance of depression, and were happier overall compared to fish & meat eaters (1)

  2. disease fighting - a vegetarian diet that is well balanced with grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, fruits & veg is low in fat, cholesterol and have been shown to reduce heart disease risk. (2)

  3. lean figure- look, if you’re eating a balanced diet anyway, you’re gonna have a lean figure either way, but less animal proteins will definitely aid in this, if this is what you’re looking for.

  4. less toxicity - foodborne diseases are more prevalent in animal products than in plant based

  5. sight - apparently veggies have less macular degeneration and better vision (3)

  6. money saving - lets face it, a 250g steak costs way more than a bunch of kale.

  7. better athletic performance - this one i think depends on you and your own bio individuality, but there are a lot of veggie/vegan athletes thriving at the moment.

  8. supporting animal rights - self explanatory, you don’t raise to kill, you dont kill to eat.

  9. saving the planet - it takes less energy, water and less farmland to be vegetarian, if you wanna check out more, cowspiracy is the go.

  10. longevity - can you believe that vegetarians have been found to enjoy longer/healthier lives? (4)

read, explore, research, whatever you like… i don’t ask that you become vegetarian, because that may not be right for you, sometimes your body calls for animal proteins and you should definitely listen to that. but, if you reduce, to only a couple of meals a week, or even less, with meat in it, you will be doing our planet a huge, huge, huge service, let alone the cute, living & feeling animals that we are raising for our eating pleasure.
